Do I need to change the fuser in my printer?

You’re used to your printer telling you to change the toner cartridge, and every once and a while it’ll tell you to change the drum unit. But now you’re getting an alert to change the fuser. What is printer fuser?

Printers are complicated pieces of equipment. You think it’s just toner being put on a page, but toner is a powder. How does the toner stay on the page?

The toner is held in a toner cartridge (along with other moving parts).

The drum unit is responsible for getting the toner onto the page where you want it.

The fuser heats and bonds the toner to the paper.

All three age over time and can be the cause of print issues (weird streaking on the page, faint print, ghost images).

A sign that your fuser needs to be replaced is that your prints are blurry, or the toner is not sticking to the paper. The best sign that your fuser needs to be replaced is that your printer tells you 😊

The fuser can be purchased separately for some printers or comes in a maintenance kit. A maintenance kit also comes with all the various rollers for your printer. It’s a good idea to change the rollers at the same time you change the fuser, so a maintenance kit is always your best option.

The fuser (and rollers) can be installed by a printer technician. You may be able to change the fuser yourself, if you are technically savvy. There are YouTube videos of fusers and rollers being installed on many different printer models. Just search for “how to replace fuser (or rollers) on” for the make and model of your printer.

People think printers are simple, but there are a lot of moving parts. Your ETB Account Manager is happy to answer any questions you have about your printer consumables! 😊
