If you have one of these HP printers: Laserjet Pro M402d, Laserjet Pro M402dn, Laserjet Pro M402n, Laserjet Pro MFP M426dw, Laserjet Pro MFP M426fdn, Laserjet Pro MFP M426Fdw, imageCLASS LBP214dw, imageCLASS LBP215dw, imageCLASS MF424dw, imageCLASS MF426dw, imageCLASS MF429dw then you need to use the CF226X toner cartridge in your printer. (Yes, sometimes all the letters at the end of your printer model do make a difference when it comes to what toner cartridge to use, so don’t forget about them!)
We recommend the CF226X because it is a high yield cartridge. The CF226X has a page yield of 9,000 pages. The CF226A also fits in the HP Laserjet Pro M402d, Laserjet Pro M402dn, Laserjet Pro M402n, Laserjet Pro MFP M426dw, Laserjet Pro MFP M426fdn, Laserjet Pro MFP M426fdw printers, but it is a low yield cartridge with a page yield of 3,100 pages.
The HP printers have a separate imaging drum unit. If your printer uses the CF226X toner cartridge, you’ll need the CF232A imaging drum unit. The CF232A imaging drum unit has a page yield of 23,000 pages, which is higher than either low or high page yield toner cartridges. So you don’t have to change your drum unit every time you change your toner.
The standard rule of thumb is to divide your drum unit page yield by your toner cartridge page yield. This will tell you how many times you can change your toner cartridge before you have to change your drum unit. Your toner cartridge holds the toner (and many other things). Your drum unit is responsible for fusing the toner to your page. If you don’t change your drum unit, there are some print issues that can occur.
