How can I set my printer to use less toner?

Some offices print very little, some offices print so much that the printers are always working! Regardless of the type of office you’re working in, if you are working on a project that requires a lot of draft printing, there are often ways you can decrease the amount of toner the printer uses on each page. If you set your printer to use less toner it will save the company money on toner cartridges too! And what office doesn’t need to save a little money here and there these days.

Most printers allow you to select the Economy, Eco, or Draft mode in the properties or settings section of your printer. This means you will print a slightly lighter, less precise copy, but your printer will use less toner. This is a great option if you have a large printing job that you don’t need in a perfect “presentation ready” format. As a side benefit the document will also print faster, which is great news if it’s a larger document!

This Draft, Economy, or Eco option is sometimes in the settings menu on your printer, you just have to navigate through to the right part of the settings menu. Sometimes you find the Economy, Eco, or Draft setting in the printer properties window on your computer. Again, you just have to find the right area.

If you’re having trouble finding the setting, or don’t know whether it’s on your printer or your computer, you can use your favourite search engine to search “how to change the Economy, Eco, or Draft setting” for your printer make and model. There are many great step-by-step tutorials on the internet that will show you how to change your settings.
