Why is there loose toner inside my printer?

You’ve just replaced your toner cartridge and notice that there is loose toner inside your printer. Don’t panic. Most likely your prints are still coming out looking great. Toner is a very fine powder that can escape the cartridge when you pull the seal. Some toner can also come out of the cartridge when you put it in your printer, like when it connects to the imaging drum. This is totally normal, and you don’t need to do anything as long as your prints are still looking great.

There is one situation that is not normal –a toner cartridge can be damaged during transport, or if the box is dropped in the office. In this case, you would see a lot of toner inside your printer, and it would be spilling out on the paper. If this happens, send us a picture of your printer and we will send out a replacement cartridge. Our job is to make sure you are producing the best quality prints with our cartridges!

If you would like to clean the loose toner out of your printer, please let us know! We have toner cleaning cloths we can send you that work like a charm and don’t damage the inside of your printer. Just make sure you unplug your printer and let it cool down before cleaning anything.

People think printers are simple, but there are a lot of moving parts. Your ETB Account Manager is happy to answer any questions you have about your printer consumables! 😊
